Loop Types

We install 3 types of geothermal systems, each with their own advantages. The type of loop that’s right for your home depends on a number of factors such as your property’s layout.

Horizontal Ground-Loop Systems

In a horizontal ground-loop system, fluid is circulated horizontally in a closed loop of pipe laid at a depth of about six feet, and below Ontario’s frost line.

In the winter months, the fluid is warmed by the ground and brought into the heat-pump to warm your home. During the summer months, that process is reversed as the fluid carries the heat back into the ground.

Vertical Ground-Loop Systems

In smaller yards, fluid is circulated through a closed loop of pipe inserted into vertical bores, two-hundred and six-hundred feet in the ground. The deeper the better, as dense bedrock has higher thermal conductivity than loose soil.

They are also ideal for yards with rocky terrain, or in areas with more extreme climates.

Lake/Pond Loop System

If you have an open body of water on your property, a Lake/ Pond Loop may best suit your needs. Fluid circulates through a closed loop of pipe lying at the bottom of an open body of water, without coming into contact with the open water.

This type of geothermal system is both highly economical and efficient because of inherent advantages of water to water heat transference.
